DISINFORMATION CASE DETAILS

DISINFO: Zelenskyy's regime is training terrorists in Syria

SUMMARY

The Zelenskyy regime, in coordination with the Americans, is training terrorists of the "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham" in Syria on new technologies for producing drones for the purpose of combat operations against the legitimate Russian armed forces in Syria.

RESPONSE

A recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative attempting to discredit Ukraine by associating its government with terrorism.

This is not the first time that pro-Kremlin outlets try to link Ukraine with Hayat Tahrir Al Sham (HTS). There is also no evidence to support the allegation that Ukraine has links to this Syrian terrorist organisation, which was proven to be fake by Ukrainian fact-checkers. HTS has also denied these links.

Moreover, the claim that Russian forces in Syria are "legitimate" is not true. Russia has conducted numerous war crimes in Syria as stated by the UN. It has also tried to cover up for the Al Assad regime's war crimes such as the Douma and the Ghouta chemical attacks. Their intervention has primarily aimed to prop up the dictatorship of Al-Assad's regime.

See similar disinformation cases that Ukrainian intelligence services negotiate with Syrian terrorists to fight Russia, that Ukraine cooperates with radicals in Syria and terrorists in Africa, that Kyiv uses the same methods as ISIS to recruit children, that Ukrainian intelligence and NATO countries masterminded terror attacks in Dagestan, and that Crocus attacks could be conducted by both ISIS and Ukraine, both under US control.
