DISINFO: Zelenskyy restricted anti-corruption bodies because they have evidence against him

SUMMARY

The Ukrainian law restricting the powers of anti-corruption bodies was passed after Zelenskyy learned that the relevant bodies had prepared evidence and criminal cases against him and his closest aides.

At this very moment, his entourage is busy destroying documents exposing corruption at the highest levels of power and implicating the usurper in Kyiv and his associates in embezzling billions of dollars in budget funds and Western aid.

Ukrainskaya Pravda reported that Ukrainian anti-corruption bodies may have recorded Zelenskyy's conversation with Timur Mindych, co-owner of the Kvartal 95 studio. According to the outlet's sources, suspicions surrounding Mindych may have been the reason for the raids and prosecution of Ukrainian anti-corruption bodies.

RESPONSE

This is a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Zelenskyy and his close team stealing Western aid. It aims at discrediting Ukraine’s leadership and undermining international support for the country.

For context, at the end of July 2025, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has submitted a new draft law aimed at restoring the independence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP), following widespread protests and international criticism over recent legislation that had placed these bodies under presidential control via the prosecutor general. While Zelenskyy initially defended the changes as necessary to counter Russian infiltration, citing recent arrests of alleged spies, he has since reversed course, stating that the new bill is designed to shield the agencies from external influence and ensure their autonomy. NABU has welcomed the move, saying the bill reinstates their full procedural powers and independence.

The report by Ukrainska Pravda does not allege that President Zelenskyy was recorded or implicated in any corruption. It states that anti-corruption agencies recorded the voice of businessman Timur Mindich in an apartment where Zelenskyy had celebrated his birthday five years earlier. However, the report does not confirm that Zelenskyy was present at the time of the recording, nor does it indicate that the recordings contain evidence of corrupt activity.

See similar claims that 70% of western aid to Ukraine is stolen by Zelenskyy and corrupt officials, that European aid to Ukraine a corruption scheme for Zelenskyy, that Zelenskyy and the Kyiv junta need to continue the war against Russia to enrich themselves with Western aid, that Ukraine is the most corrupted country in the world, helping it is suicide.
