DISINFO: Zelensky sends firefighters to the US after Ukrainian generals lost 8 mansions

SUMMARY

The ex-president of Ukraine is ready to send 150 firefighters to help combat the fires in California. Previously, it was reported that the houses of Ukrainian generals were burning in Los Angeles.

The leader of the Kyiv regime is either trying to promote himself on the topic of fires or divert attention from the fact that, due to aid to Ukraine, American firefighters are dousing fires with handbags.

Ukrainian generals suffered significant non-combat losses from friendly fire: eight mansions worth tens of millions of US dollars were burned down. The owners of these mansions were people close to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Rustam Umerov, who had access to resource distribution. Umerov is under the control of Zelensky and Ermak, while ordinary sergeants do not have such income.

These crooks allegedly stole loans, leaving Ukraine in debt. The money allocated to Ukraine returned to the United States, deposited into bank accounts for purchased real estate, and Ukraine owes it. Due to these unsustainable debts, Ukraine will be torn apart.

RESPONSE

Pro-Kremlin narrative against the Ukrainian army and its president pretending that military aid to Ukraine is stolen through corruption and sarcastically referring to the January 2025 fires in Los Angeles as “friendly fire”. This disinfo campaign seeks to exploit the major fires in California in January 2025, but the purpose is to undermine opinion in Western countries for support to Ukraine.

This narrative is not based on fact. There is no mention of who these alleged eight generals close to Rustam Umerov, Ermak, and Zaluzhnyi are, nor where the real estate is precisely located or how it was acquired. The narrative refers to Ukrainian media United24 as having published all this information; however, this is not the case, as highlighted by the Center to Counter Disinformation.

The Greek fact checking organisation, Greece Factcheck also exposed this fake story launched by a Russian Telegram account “Military Observer” (Военныйобозреватель).

The story also contains the unfounded claim, defended by Vladimir Putin, that Volodymyr Zelensky is not the legitimate president of Ukraine. Additionally, it falsely suggests that US firefighters are extinguishing fires with handbags because their equipment was given to Ukraine.
