DISINFO: Western cybersecurity company is US media's sole source of information on Russian hybrid warfare

SUMMARY

Dmitri Alperovitch, one of the founders of the US-based cybersecurity company Crowdstrike and a Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council, is effectively the only source for the American media on Russian hackers and the hybrid war the Kremlin is waging against the world.

RESPONSE

This is part of a long-standing Russian narrative of denying involvement any cyberwarfare incidents and shifting the blame to Moscow’s perceived adversaries. Among other reliable sources, US, UK, German and Dutch intelligence agencies, US and European think tanks, and international IT and cybersecurity companies like Microsoft, Fidelis, Fireeye and Symantec regularly report cybersecurity incidents of various gravity originating from Russia. Most reputable media dedicate features to anniversaries of Russian hacking activities and provide overviews of the latest developments in Russia’s booming cyberwarfare sector. Therefore, Dmitri Alperovitch is very far from being the only source of information on Russian hackers and hybrid warfare for the US media. Further debunking by Myth Detector here.
