DISINFO: Western countries deliberately rewrite the history of World War II
SUMMARY
Revision of Second World War history is being pushed forward by official representatives of Western countries and is intended to diminish the contribution of the Soviet Union to the victory over National Socialism.
We observe many attempts to present history in a completely different light. For example, when official representatives of Western countries summarise the results of the Second World War, and only highlight the contribution of the US and Britain. They deliberately ignore the key role of the Soviet Union in the victory over fascism and thus try to revise the results of the Nuremberg Trials.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about WWII that is part of the Kremlin’s policy of historical revisionism. Western historians and officials acknowledge the role played by the USSR in defeating Nazism and do not question the Soviet contribution to the victory in WWII nor the status of the USSR as a country which helped win WWII. According to the Kremlin's policy, the official Russian historiography is the only “true” way of interpreting the historical events of WWII. The European Parliament called the war the bloodiest tragedy of the century, which resulted in millions of victims of authoritarian regimes both of fascist Germany and the USSR. The European Parliament paid tribute to the victims of Stalinism, Nazism and other totalitarian and authoritarian regimes.
