DISINFO: West organising colour revolution in Serbia
SUMMARY
The Serbian president carries out an independent foreign policy. He also cooperates with Russia having a balanced foreign policy. The West does not like it and attempts to control the Serbian government. To this aim, it organises colour revolution in Serbia to put pressure on the government. But the plan of the West does not work because president Vucic has learned a lesson from Ukraine.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative framing popular protests as Western-backed ‘colour revolutions’. By baselessly describing Serbian demonstrators as Western stooges, this disinformation story aims to discredit them.
There is zero evidence of any Westen involvement in Serbia’s protests. Demonstrations started in mid-December 2024 after the collapse of a concrete infrastructure in a railway station in Novi Sad killed 15 people, an incident that many protesters blamed on corruption. The protest movement was led by students, but soon professors, lawyers and other professionals joined them, pointing to widespread dissatisfaction with Alexander Vucic’s government.
Framing any eventual exit of Vucic as a “coup” and claiming without evidence that the result of it would be chaos are other manipulative narratives deployed in this disinformation story.
