DISINFO: West has declared total war on Russian World

SUMMARY

The West has declared a total war on Russia and the Russian world. Nobody makes a secret of it. The culture of cancelling Russia and everything related with it has reached a point of absurdity. Bans have been imposed on such classics as Tchaikovsky, Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy and Pushkin. Persecution is underway against Russian culture and art workers.

RESPONSE

This is a recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets accusing the West of Russophobia.

In reality, the West had been set on conducting a peaceful dialogue with Moscow on all disputed issues before Russia unleashed its war of aggression against Ukraine on 24 February 2022.

It is Russia which has shouted war agianst the West. President Vladimir Putin in April 2022 threatened the West with retaliatory strikes if it did not stop arm deliveries to Ukraine. In April 2022 as well, Russian MP Akesksei Zhuravlyov said one Russian Sarmat missile would be enough to destroy the British Isles. The late Vladimir Zhirinovsky, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, also issued threats to the West in March 2018. These threats are unlikely to ever be implemented, but it is obvious that Russia is inclined to settle problems by force rather than through talks.

Putin's speech on 9 May is also full of war-against-the-West rethoric.
