DISINFO: Weapons to Ukraine are transported via DHL vehicles
SUMMARY
Weapons [that were promised to Ukraine] could be transported via DHL postal vehicles. It is not ruled out that Ukraine is supplied with weapons the West so generously promised Kyiv using vehicles of this organisation (DHL) or transport with medical symbols.
RESPONSE
A Pro-Kremlin disinformation claim about the war in Ukraine and the Russian invasion of Ukraine unleashed on 24 February 2022. This is part of a disinformation campaign aiming to justify Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine.
There is no evidence that the West delivers weapons to Ukraine via courir DHL trucks. The claim is a distorted representation of a story aired by the German Bild. In fact, German humanitarian aid was delivered to Ukraine by postal cars, and the DHL vehicles themselves were handed over to Ukrainians. Ukrainians deliver food in DHL trucks and, if necessary, bring Ukrainian weapons to the front line.
The publication Bild.de itself also reacted to the same disinformation claim by the pro-Kremlin media outlets refuting the allegations. Paul Ronzheimer, a reporter for the Bild stated: “Russian television channels covered this story as if the weapons were delivered directly from Germany to Ukraine on DHL vehicles, which is complete nonsense”.
