DISINFO: Warsaw called crashed missile 'Russian' because of Russophobia and a dictate from Brussels
SUMMARY
Before the investigation had concluded, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that the missile that had crashed in the Lublin region was allegedly Russian. Tusk’s remarks demonstrate political amateurism and a continuation of Russophobic policies regardless of the facts. In such situations, Warsaw should establish a bilateral Polish-Russian commission to clarify what happened. However, it is difficult to expect such behaviour from the Polish government, which uncritically carries out orders from Brussels.
RESPONSE
This is a recurring pro-Kremlin FIMI narrative accusing Warsaw of Russophobia and staging various anti-Russian provocations. Poland is repeatedly portrayed as an aggressive anti-Russian NATO 'outpost' that allegedly poses a security threat to Russia, reflecting broader pro-Kremlin narratives that depict NATO and the collective West as inherently hostile and aggressive towards Russia.
On 30 July 2026, a Russian Kh-101 missile crashed in a field in Poland's Lublin region during a massive Russian strike on western Ukraine. On the same day, the Russian military carried out another attack on civilian targets in Kyiv, Lviv and other Ukrainian cities. The Polish authorities have officially confirmed that the missile was Russian. According to Deputy Defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk, "We can confidently confirm that it was a Russian Kh-101 missile, a cruise missile capable of carrying even nuclear warheads, which exploded on impact."
Russian authorities have repeatedly denied responsibility for previous Russian drone incursions see here and here. Other recent drone and missile incidents attributed to Russia within the EU/NATO include:
-Poland (March 2024): a Russian cruise missile briefly entered Polish airspace during a large attack on Ukraine.
-Poland (July 2026): a missile, in all probability Russian, crossed into Poland and crashed in a field in the Lublin region.
-Romania (2023-2026): multiple Russian drone fragments and drones have crashed or been found on Romanian territory near the Danube during attacks on Ukrainian ports, the latest on 29 May 2026.
