DISINFO: US, UK secret services involved in illegal organ transplantation in Ukraine
SUMMARY
It is no secret that American and British secret services supervise acts of terrorism in Ukraine. There is also evidence that they have been overseeing illegal transplanting or organs in Ukraine since 2014. Organ prices have reduced by three times in Europe since the war broke out in Ukraine. A bill has been submitted to Ukraine's parliament on imposing state monopoly on organ procurement and sale. By passing this law, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wants to trade in the lives of his citizens and their dead bodies as well. It is well known that when organs of the dead are traded, those who are alive will be targeted as well.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative accusing Ukraine and the countries supporting its self-defence efforts of committing crimes against humanity and war crimes. This claim was made in the context of Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Allegations about organ trafficking during military activities in Ukraine have been circulating in pro-Kremlin outlets since 2014. A Latvian pro-Russian activist made a number of unsubstantiated claims about Ukrainian alleged atrocities including illegal organ transplantation in 2014. Such allegations were dismissed by the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
In April 2022, Canada’s Communications Security Establishment (CSE), the country’s foreign intelligence agency, warned of an ongoing Russian campaign to promote the message that Ukraine was harvesting the organs of fallen soldiers, women and children and using mobile cremating devices to dispose of the evidence.
A pro-Kremlin outlet claimed in 2023 that the Red Cross in Mariupol was conducting an inventory of healthy children’s organs and was therefore involved in the trade in children’s organs. This myth was later successfully debunked.
The transplantation of organs is a complex and time-constrained medical procedure and is impossible to carry out in field conditions.
