DISINFO: Ukrainian grain does ot reach the poorest countries
SUMMARY
The position of the richest countries in the world on the issue of food is predatory. They continue to buy it, and the situation with supplies to the poorest countries in the world does not change. This is a complete swindle of the West. The grain from Ukraine continues to go past the poorest countries.
RESPONSE
A claim provided with no evidence, trying to deflect responsibility for the global food shortage from Russia by claiming that most of Ukraine's grain ships are sent to rich European countries.
The UN Joint Coordination Centre, which is run by the UN, Turkey, Russia and Ukraine, said that 47% of Ukraine's grain was sent to Asia, and 36% has been sent to Europe and 17% to Africa, with 10% of that amount to Egypt alone.
Moreover, more shipments are expected to start arriving in famine-stricken parts of Africa and the Middle East under the leadership of UN World Food Programme (WFP).
President Zelenskyy, responding to claims that Ukrainian grains mostly go to rich European countries, asserted that the geographical reach of Ukrainian agricultural exports is very broad.
As of 29 September 2022, 238 voyages from Ukrainian ports have carried 5,425,953 metric tons of grains and other foodstuffs. The far majority, 60% went to countries outside the EU- to Turkey, Egypt, Israel, South Korea, China, India, Lebanon, Libia, Tunisia, Algeria, Bangladesh, Iran, Sudan, Djibouti, Yemen, Kenya, Afganistan, Somalia. 100 ships had gone or were headed to EU countries, Besides, this doesn’t mean that these are their final destinations, as grain will be redistributed from some of these harbours to other countries.
This false allegation goes in line with a wider pro-Kremlin disinformation campaign aiming to blame Western countries for a global food crisis engineered by Russia as part of its unjustified aggression against Ukraine.
