DISINFO: Ukrainian attack in Kursk area is Western operation

SUMMARY

The attack in the Kursk area is an operation carried out by the West. All Ukrainian headquarters are led by foreign generals. They determine the strategy of the Ukrainian armed forces. And they have organised the attack on the Kursk area. This means that the ‘offensive’ was not even intended for the Ukrainian public but for the Western public because Zelenskyy has not commented on it so far. Overall, the Ukrainian leadership and the media are rather reserved in their reporting on alleged advances in the Kursk area. A glance at the German media shows where this news's main recipient is: in the West.

RESPONSE

Recurring disinformation narrative about the war against Ukraine and the alleged control of Ukraine by Western countries. There is no evidence to support the claim that foreign generals are leading the Ukrainian army or that they organised an attack on Kursk. This is an attempt to justify Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.

Russia is the only country responsible for the invasion of Ukraine. It has been coming up with different false explanations and pretexts for its aggression since the beginning of its hostilities.

Ukraine is a sovereign and independent state with a democratically elected president and parliament. The country's sovereignty has been violated only as a result of continuous acts of aggression by the Russian armed forces since 2014, culminating with a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine starting on 24 February 2022.

Ukraine is defending itself, its territorial integrity, national self-identity, and sovereignty against Russia's armed aggression. The decision to defend itself was made solely by Ukraine, its lawful leaders and government, and its citizens.

NATO troops are not fighting in Ukraine. The Alliance has repeatedly stated that it is not a warring party and that it does not have troops on the ground in Ukraine. NATO officials have frequent contacts with their Ukrainian counterparts and the Alliance provides training and intelligence to Ukraine, but its troops have not been officially deployed on the frontline either in Ukraine or in Russia’s Kursk Region.

There are foreign volunteers who fight in the International Legion for the Defence of Ukraine, some of whom are from NATO member states. These volunteers have joined the legion independently and are not part of an official NATO military mission.

Moreover, Russia was not forced to invade Ukraine. It was Putin’s personal decision to invade Ukraine and start the largest military conflict in Europe since WWII.

The US, the EU and NATO condemn in the strongest possible terms Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which is entirely unjustified and unprovoked. Not only Western but also many other nations around the world support Ukraine with military and financial aid for the country’s efficient self-defence, in accordance with the UN Charter article 51, to stop Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.
