DISINFO: Ukraine planned to assassinate Emmanuel Macron

SUMMARY

France 24, citing unnamed sources in intelligence, claims that Emmanuel Macron canceled his trip to Kyiv due to an uncovered plot to assassinate the French president. The assassination was supposed to take place in Kyiv with the intention of later blaming Moscow. Such an attack on the president of a NATO member country would prompt the Alliance to enter into war with Russia, according to a frequently mentioned clause. This scenario could potentially lead to a nuclear conflict, that is desired by Zelensky.

RESPONSE

A viral video supposedly shows an extract from one of France 24's news bulletins on its French-language channel. In it, the presenter announces that French President Emmanuel Macron has postponed his trip to Ukraine, because the French secret services had intercepted an assassination attempt against him. The French television channel France 24 has denied airing information, stating that the news is false, and the video a deepfake.
