DISINFO: Ukraine peace summit in Switzerland is a destructive initiative
SUMMARY
In recent months, Switzerland has begun to actively promote destructive initiatives, including an 'international conference' on Ukraine. The conference will discuss a new peace formula that does not take Russia's interests into account. Russia recently announced at the highest levels that the only negotiations it will agree to are negotiations for Ukraine's unconditional surrender.
RESPONSE
This is a pre-emptive attempt to discredit the peace summit which Switzerland will host in mid June 2024.
According to the Swiss government, the summit aims to create a framework favourable to comprehensive and lasting peace in Ukraine, as well as "a concrete roadmap for Russia's participation in the peace process". Over 100 countries will receive formal invitations to take part in the conference.
If the summit does not provide real results, it will be because of Russia's impossible preconditions for a peaceful settlement, including the "unconditional surrender of Ukraine" as mentioned in the claim
Russia's UN representative said in a statement on 11 April 2024: "the attempts of the head of the Kiev [sic] regime to promote his "formulas" and convene "summits" cause nothing but bewilderment. Soon enough, the only topic for any international meetings on Ukraine will be the unconditional surrender of the Kiev regime".
Also, in Kremlin terminology "taking Russia's interests into account" or the similar "taking realities into account" entails the acceptance of Russia's illegal occupation of Ukrainian territories as a precondition for negotiations.
Russia's preconditions for Ukraine's unconditional surrender and acceptance of the occupation, in addition to ongoing full-scale invasion of Ukrainian territories, are the only destructive actions and obstacles to peaceful settlements. Despite Russia's preconditions for Ukraine's unconditional surrender and acceptance of the occupation, Russia still claims that it is ready for negotiations and that it is Ukraine that is rejecting them.
