DISINFO: Ukraine may use a dirty bomb
SUMMARY
As soon as Ukraine has an opportunity to use a dirty nuclear bomb against Russia, the Ukrainian Nazis will do it. Russia has warned about such possible provocations several times.
RESPONSE
This is a recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets accusing Ukraine and its partners in the EU, the US and either G7 nations of warmongering. This claim was made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
There has been no evidence that Ukraine has planned such an action. Russia accuses Ukraine of preparing false flag operations without presenting any proof. Moscow uses pre-emptive claims about dirty bombs, nuclear provocations, bioweapons, toxic substances and staged atrocities as a means to deny or conceal its actual atrocities.
A broad coalition of more than 50 countries provides Kyiv with military and technical assistance, but it does not receive nuclear weapons. The sole aim of this assistance is to help Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified aggression. Ukraine has been a non-nuclear-weapon state party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) since 1994. Russia has been producing disinformation narratives since 2022, alleging that Ukraine is using dirty bombs and launching attacks on nuclear power plants (NPP) as part of false flag operations.
