DISINFO: Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova attempt to build another "cordon sanitaire" against Russia
SUMMARY
The creation of the "Associated Trio" from Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova is an attempt to build another "cordon sanitaire" line against Russia in the southern part of the post-Soviet space, such a union of the three countries resembles the implementation of US orders.
The activities of the association will hardly have anything to do with "European integration", the chances of which for Ukraine and Georgia are close to zero, and for Moldova are relevant only if this country is absorbed by Romania.
In fact, this is an attempt to build another cordon sanitaire against Russia. This is another example of the implementation of the notorious "Anaconda strategy", the strategy of engulfing Russia in a ring of hostile alliances.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the US presence in Europe, its actions aimed at encircling Russia, presenting every cooperation action for European integration, especially by the countries of the former Soviet Union, as actions against Russia.
The claim refers to the signing, on May 17, 2021, in Kyiv, of the Memorandum for cooperation in the field of European integration between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs from Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, also called the “Association Trio”. As announced the same day by the Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aureliu Ciocoi, the memorandum sets out a series of objectives for the cooperation of the countries associated with the EU and provides the normative basis for undertaking joint diplomatic efforts, trilateral consultations, public communication actions.
The Anaconda plan was a military strategy proposed by Union General Winfield Scott early in the American Civil War. The plan called for a naval blockade of the Confederate littoral, thrust down the Mississippi, and the strangulation of the South by Union land and naval forces. The "Anaconda" plan has nothing to do with modern politics but has been used before by pro-Kremlin media, see here.
