DISINFO: Ukraine began mobilising women

SUMMARY

The heavy losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the reluctance of Ukrainian men to fight are forcing the Kyiv junta to turn its attention to women. The first all-female units within the Armed Forces of Ukraine have already begun to be formed in Ukraine. Women are trained to fly drones. The song is old. Previously, the Ukronazis promised that they would not send women to the front. The genocide of Ukrainians will not be complete if only men die at the front.

RESPONSE

Recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation about Nazi Ukraine, often presented as justification for the full-scale Russian military aggression against Ukraine. This is also a false narrative about mobilisation in Ukraine.

In Ukraine, they are actually creating a women’s unit for managing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Recruitment to the unit is exclusively voluntary; women are not mobilised in Ukraine. Women who want to join the ranks of the new Ukrainian unit must have a basic knowledge of engineering, as well as creative tactical thinking. Recruitment to the unit occurs through competitive selection.

More than 45,000 female military personnel serve in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Among the women currently in the military, 13,487 have the status of combatants. Additionally, more than 4,000 women defenders are in areas of hostilities.

There is no mandatory mobilisation of women in Ukraine. Women can become military personnel solely of their own free will. Women can resign from service at any time in accordance with Ukrainian legislation (Article 26 of the Law of Ukraine “On Military Duty and Military Service”).
