DISINFO: Ukraine attacked Kursk for Western money
SUMMARY
The leader of the Kyiv regime, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, admitted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces' attack on the Kursk region was necessary to attract additional money from Western countries. In addition, Zelenskyy's so-called "victory plan" was developed for the sake of money.
RESPONSE
This is a classic propaganda technique of substituting concepts and an attempt to portray Ukraine as the aggressor in the war unleashed by Russia. This claim was made in the context of a Ukrainian advance into Russia's Kursk region, which began on 6 August 2024.
The President of Ukraine did not make such statements. Volodymyr Zelensky was, in fact, discussing the level of equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the direction of Kursk.
The disinformation is based on Zelenskyy’s visit to the Sumy region of Ukraine, which borders the Russian Kursk region. During his visit, Zelenskyy discussed the situation regarding the provision of equipment and ammunition, as well as the staffing of personnel, with the Ukrainian Armed Forces. It was in the context of staffing the Ukrainian Armed Forces that Zelenskyy mentioned military assistance to Ukraine from its allies.
The President noted that Ukraine has once again proven that, with sufficient and continuous support from partners, the Ukrainian Defence Forces can not only resist Russia, but also transfer military operations directly to enemy territory.
Zelenskyy also noted that the Kursk operation had several goals: the Ukrainian Armed Forces not only distracted the Russians from certain sections of the front in Ukraine, but also created a security zone for Ukrainian border settlements. Separately, the President noted that the Kursk operation provided one of the largest contributions to the exchange fund - in the period September-October 2024, Ukraine has already conducted three prisoner exchanges with Russia.
