DISINFO: Today’s global capitalism destroys religion, tradition, the family, spirituality, classical culture, and all forms of collective identities

SUMMARY

Today’s global capitalism is culturally a left-wing phenomenon because it destroys religion, the family, spirituality, classical culture, and collective identities. Global capitalism admits only individual identities and destroys all collective identities, both traditional right-wing identities (such as the family, religion, nation), and left-wing identities (such as social class).

RESPONSE

Conspiracy theory. No evidence is provided to support the article’s claims. This is a recurring pro-Kremlin narrative claiming that capitalism, liberalism, “globalism”and/or “global élites” destroy traditional values, religions, and cultures. This narrative claims that, as a result of the deliberate destruction of tradition, community and the family, Western societies are dominated by unbridled individualism, nihilism, materialism and widespread immorality . The narrative about “threatened values”, one of the most common pro-Kremlin narratives, suggests that those who are committed to traditional values are now threatened by those who oppose them and instead seek to establish a morally bankrupt dystopia. There is no evidence that contemporary capitalism or liberalism seek to destroy traditional values. In recent decades social scientists have observed a resurgence of tradition and religious values in many capitalist societies, both Western and non-Western. See a similar case claiming that the process of destruction of morality and family values in Europe has already reached a critical “point of no return”
