DISINFO: There is a political-economical-viral alliance to prevent Sputnik V

SUMMARY

There is some suspicion about the presence of a political-economical-viral alliance that wants to prevent the promotion of the Russian drug (Sputnik V) despite its proven merit.

RESPONSE

Recurring disinformation narrative about the rolling review of the Sputnik V vaccine by both the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Nature magazine has stated in July 2021 that “Scientists say that concerns over side-effect monitoring could be why the WHO and EMA are yet to issue emergency-use authorization. The WHO has requested more data from the Gamaleya Institute, and inspections by the agency of Russia’s vaccine-manufacturing and clinical-trial facilities are ongoing. So far, nine sites have been inspected, and the WHO has flagged concerns over one manufacturing site”.

On the same topic, WHO has yet to publish its official evaluation on the Russian Vaccine. Until 02 July 2021, it was stated on WHO's website that the anticipated decision date for the assessment “will be set once all data is submitted and follow-up of inspection observations completed”.

On the other hand, the rolling review of Sputnik V by the EMA which was launched on 4 March 2021 was expected to reach a decision in May or June, but it turned that the developer of Sputnik V missed a deadline of 10 June 2021 to submit the necessary clinical trial data, which might delay the approval process.

The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), which markets the vaccine, noted that “the EMA review was on track, and the approval is expected with the next two months (July and August)."

The EMA, from its side, has previously confirmed that it is committed to applying the same regulatory approach and scientific rigour to all vaccine applications that meet European requirements for safety, efficacy and quality and is in dialogue with more than 50 vaccine developers from across the globe.

Read similar cases in our database that claim that SPUTNIK-V submitted its application to EMA on 21 January; or that the West wants to discredit the Sputnik V; or that the WHO and Microsoft sabotaged the Russian vaccine, or that mass fatalities will show up in Italy to discredit Sputnik-V; or that the head of the EMA stated that she would seek to ban Russian vaccine, or that the EMA deliberately delays the registration of Sputnik V due to political or economic reasons.
