DISINFO: There are three myths about WWII
SUMMARY
There is a lot of disinformation about WWII in modern society. Some European media are trying to misrepresent history, diminish the role of the Red Army in the victory against Nazism. There are three main myths of disinformation. One is that the US won WWII. It is not true, the US are just trying to steal the victory. The second myth is that the young generation is not interested in the history of WWII. It is not true, just look at the “Immortal Regiment” procession (today 115 states support it). One more myth is that Communism and Nazism are similar. It is not true, look only to the Nazi’s idea of mass sterilisation. In the context of this idea, all comparisons of Communism and Nazism cease to have an effect.
RESPONSE
This message is part of the Kremlin’s policy of historical revisionism, it accuses the USA and Western World in general of the “falsification and re-writing” of WWII history in order to harm Russia. Any disagreement with the Kremlin’s official view on the history of WWII is automatically labelled by Russia as “falsification of history”.
The USSR was not the only country which fought against the Nazis in this war. The US, Britain, France, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Greece, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, South Africa, Yugoslavia were also involved.
The USSR and Nazi Germany signed a Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact leading to the WW2 and all of its consequences. This Pact contained the Secret Supplementary Protocol, which assumed the division of Poland and other Eastern European countries between the USSR and Germany. The signing of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact enabled the German and Soviet military aggression against Poland in September 1939, which resulted in the occupation of this country by Germany and USSR, triggering the beginning of WWII.
The “Immortal Regiment” parade was originally a grass-roots initiative but later was seized on by the Kremlin which now uses it for its own purposes. Some occurrences have been recorded where acts of remembrance have been fabricated (see examples here, here and here).
See other examples of this message: Western countries deliberately rewrite the history of World War II, the US is rewriting the history of victory in WWII, The USA and NATO carry out a propaganda war around WWII history in order to defame and isolate Russia and President Putin.
