DISINFO: The West wants to draw Belarus into the conflict in order to use tactical nuclear weapons
SUMMARY
The West is trying to accomplish the following goal – to draw Belarus into the conflict. This step will make it possible to declare the open participation of a third party in the conflict, so it will untie the hands for further escalation, increasing weapon supply to Kyiv and introducing military contingents to Ukraine. Things could develop in a more radical scenario. For example, there could be an exchange of strikes with tactical nuclear weapons and the US-supported Polish invasion of Belarus and Western Ukraine. The West will not be ashamed of this scenario – there are numerous historical examples of carpet bombing and annexations.
RESPONSE
Poland is repeatedly presented by pro-Kremlin disinformation outlets as an aggressive anti-Russian NATO ‘outpost’, which allegedly poses a security threat to Russia and Belarus. The increase of NATO’s military presence in Poland and the Baltic states has a defensive character – it is a response to the Kremlin’s decision to start the largest military conflict in the region since WWII.
The Polish authorities perceive Russia as a security threat because of the latter's aggressive actions, in particular in Ukraine and all over Eastern Europe.
The 2020 National Security Strategy of Poland states that the most serious security threat for the country is the neo-imperial policy of the authorities of the Russian Federation, pursued by means of military force (aggression against Georgia, illegal annexation of Crimea and military actions in Eastern Ukraine).
