DISINFO: The West uses Ukraine war as preparation for larger war with Russia
SUMMARY
Although Ukraine is suffering huge losses, Western countries are set to do everything to make Zelenskyy keep using Ukraine's male population as cannon fodder. There is only one task and goal of the military supplies to Ukraine. The West wants to prolong the agony of the Kyiv regime in order to prepare itself for a large-scale war with Russia. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s statement is very characteristic. He said that Britain's military industry was being reoriented for war preparations. Other Western nations are acting in the same manner.
RESPONSE
This is a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative which portrays Russia as a peace-loving country and accuses the EU, the US and their allies of warmongering, while portraying Ukraine as a puppet state. This claim was made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Ukraine and its population is defending itself against this armed aggression in a remarkable display of continued courage and determination. This is not a decision by NATO, Washington, the EU or others. A broad coalition of more than 50 nations, including Ukraine’s Western partners, is providing it with military, economic, and humanitarian aid with the sole aim to help it repel Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified aggression. Ukraine is fighting Russia in self-defence, in order to liberate all of its occupied territories and return to its internationally recognised borders of 1991. Kyiv is acting as enshrined in the UN Charter Article 51.
Western leaders did everything they could to prevent Russian aggression. Ukraine's partners made great efforts to stop the war in the first months of hostilities (see here and here), but Russia ignored these efforts.
NATO does not seek confrontation with Russia or poses any threats to it. It is a defensive alliance whose purpose is to protect its member states. Finland’s and Sweden’s membership of NATO, as well as Allied activities along Russia’s border, results from Moscow’s increasingly aggressive behaviour.
The US, the EU and NATO condemn in the strongest possible terms Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which is entirely unjustified and unprovoked.
