DISINFO: The West uses Ukraine to destroy Russia
SUMMARY
Ukraine has turned into a tool in the hands of the collective West in order to crush Russia, to contain it, to leave it on the sidelines of development, and to destroy it if possible. Western nations openly speak about it.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative accusing Ukraine's Western partners of pervasive Russophobia. This claim was made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
A broad coalition of nations including the EU and the US supports Ukraine with military equipment and economic aid. Kyiv’s Western partners help Ukraine to liberate all of its occupied territories and restore its sovereignty within its internationally recognised borders of 1991. Ukraine is acting in self-defence against the Russian invasion as enshrined in the UN Charter Article 51. Ukraine receives only conventional weapons. Nuclear arms and other means of mass destruction are not supplied to Ukraine.
The EU imposed economic sanctions on Russia following its illegal annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea in 2014. More sanctions have been issued on Russia since it launched its unprovoked and unjustified aggression against Ukraine in February 2022.
The goal of the sanctions is to change the Kremlin's policy and force Russia to withdraw its troops from Ukraine. These restrictive measures are aimed against legal entities and individuals, closely related to the Kremlin. They do not target the Russian people. Their aim is not to destroy Russia, but to stop Putin's war of aggression against Ukraine.
