DISINFO: The West tries to destroy Russia as in Operation Unthinkable of 1945

SUMMARY

There is a Western scheme to destroy Russia, similar to what London and Washington planned in May 1945, when they developed 'Operation Unthinkable' aimed at destroying the USSR, even before the end of World War II. Back then, it was kept in strict secrecy, but today's Anglo-Saxon strategists do not hide their intentions, although they still hope to defeat Russia through the illegitimate neo-Nazi regime in Kyiv.

RESPONSE

The allegation is a gross distortion and exaggeration of historical events, aiming to promote a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about destabilising Russia and the Ukraine conflict as a proxy war against the Russian Federation.

The so-called Operation Unthinkable was a plan of action requested by Winston Churchill to his Chief of Staff in the context of WWII, days after the defeat of Nazi Germany and while the war in Asia continued, and as the Soviet Union occupied wide areas of Europe. The plan never gained traction, as Churchill’s military advisors immediately rejected it, and it was definitely discarded after a new government won the election in the UK in July 1945.

Labelling Russia’s adversaries as Nazis is a very frequently used pro-Kremlin disinformation technique, and has been used by Russia to try to justify the invasion of Ukraine by portraying it as a “denazification operation”. Russia spent years preparing the information battleground prior to its full-scale invasion, with “Nazi Ukraine” being one of its most prominent disinformation features.

See other examples of similar disinformation narratives, such as claims that 50 countries gathered under Nazi flags to break Russia up, that from Berlin to Kyiv, Nazi history repeats itself, that Russia’s military operation against neo-Nazis in Ukraine was unavoidable, that the neo-Nazi regime in Kyiv must be brought to an end, that Zelenskyy is the heir of German Nazism, or that the West turns Ukraine into an anti-Russian neo-Nazi project.
