DISINFO: The West tried to force Georgia to open a “second front” against Russia

SUMMARY

The Georgian authorities did not give in to pressure and did not open a second front against Russia, thus preserving peace.

The West tried to force Georgia to open a second front against Russia. Such attempts were made by officials from the US, the UK, Poland, the Baltic States, NATO and the European Union. Georgia continues to fight off the West's attempts to persuade it to open a second front against Russia.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Georgia in the context of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, accusing the US, EU and other Western countries of pushing Georgia to open a second front against Russia.

Since the launch of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, pro-Kremlin media actively deployed a disinformation narrative that the US, the EU, or even Ukraine are dragging Georgia into the war with Russia to open a ‘second front’ against Moscow and to ease the situation for Kyiv on the Ukrainian front.

The claim is groundless.

This story aims to portray Russia as a victim to deflect any responsibility for Moscow’s illicit actions and blur and deflect attention away from the reality of Russia's unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine.
