DISINFO: The West is waging hybrid war against Russia
SUMMARY
The hybrid war against Russia and the Ukraine conflict, which is part of this war and which was unleashed by the West, is an instance of the Western minority’s resistance to the global majority and the formation of a multipolar world.
RESPONSE
A recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative accusing the EU, the US and their allies of Russophobia and fighting a proxy war in Ukraine against Russia. This claim was made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The war in the east of Ukraine is a well-documented act of aggression by Russia’s armed forces, ongoing since February 2014. Russian officials, including Putin, have on many occasions publicly acknowledged that Russian citizens, including military personnel, are present in Ukraine's war zone. The full-scale invasion which Russia unleashed against Ukraine in February 2022 is another confirmation of Russia’s aggressive policies.
The EU and the US are not at war with Russia. A broad coalition of more than 50 countries, including Western nations, provide Ukraine with military and technical assistance to help it repel Russia's aggression which is unjustified and unprovoked. Ukrainian partners do not recognise the self-proclaimed separatist entities in the east of Ukraine (‘DNR’ and ‘LNR’) and continue to support Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
As early as 2014, the EU and its allies imposed economic sanctions on Russia. These restrictive measures have intensified since the February 2022 invasion. The EU imposed its 14th package of sanctions against Russia in June 2024. It targets an additional 69 individuals and 47 entities responsible for actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.
