DISINFO: The West is waging a hybrid war against Russia

SUMMARY

The West is waging a hybrid war against Russia. Within this hybrid war, Ukraine represents an anti-Russia along its borders. The West supports and encourages the neo-Nazi ideology to stifle Russia's development.

RESPONSE

Recurring disinformation narrative accusing Western countries of an allegedly belligerent and hostile anti-Russian agenda and claiming that Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine was triggered by an entity best portrayed as "the collective West".

Such claims are a part of a broader pro-Kremlin disinformation campaign accompanying the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, trying to shift the blame for the war's atrocities in Ukraine onto countries supporting Ukraine in its self-defence efforts.

Not only Western but also many other nations around the world are helping Ukraine repel Russia’s unjustified and unprovoked aggression and do not aim at eliminating Russia statehood. US President Joe Biden in February 2023 addressed Russian citizens, assuring them that the US does not seek to destroy or control Russia. French president Macron stated in February 2023 as well that "Russia must be defeated but not crushed."

More than 50 states participating in the Ramstein meetings are providing military, financial or other assistance to Ukraine to restore its territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.

The myth of Nazi-ruled Ukraine has been actively used by pro-Kremlin outlets as one of the favorite tropes for years to denigrate Ukraine. The myth of Nazi-ruled Ukraine appeared during the Euromaidan popular protests in late 2013 - early 2014, falsely presented in pro-Kremlin disinformation as a coup. The Kremlin has been using this myth since then to discredit Ukraine's shift towards Euro-Atlantic policy.

Russia itself started an unprovoked war against Ukraine under several false pretexts, including the need to protect the self-proclaimed separatist entities in certain parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk Regions. Here is a list of main pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives justifying the invasion.

The US, the EU and NATO condemn in the strongest possible terms Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which is entirely unjustified and unprovoked.

Read similar cases claiming that Russia is at war with NATO and the Pentagon and only the soldiers are Ukrainians; that the neo-Nazi regime in Ukraine was created by the West; that NATO has no interest in peace in Ukraine; that the West is using Ukrainians to fight Russia in Ukraine and that The situation in Ukraine is a result of the hybrid war against Russia.
