DISINFO: The West is trying to prevent peace talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia
SUMMARY
Western countries, especially France and the United States, are trying to prevent peace talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Their aim is to create regional tension and maintain a war-like atmosphere among revanchist forces. The Armenian-US joint exercises called Eagle Partner 2024 in Armenia can only be approached from this perspective.
RESPONSE
An anti-Western narrative suggesting that Western countries are attempting to destabilize the South Caucasus region. This assertion, lacking any proof, was made in the context of Eagle Partner 2024, a joint military exercise between the Armenian and US armies which took place from July 15-24 2024.
In fact, the opposite is true regarding the peace talks. As Politico explained on 31 July 2024:
"European Council President Charles Michel is renewing efforts to bring a lasting peace to the South Caucasus, as tensions rise in the war-torn region".
The Eagle Partner exercise aims to enhance the joint capabilities of Armenian and U.S. forces in peacekeeping operations. It involves gunnery and stability exercises, weapons familiarisation, and range management. This collaboration allows soldiers from both countries to become acquainted with each other's equipment. This military exercise was also organised in 2023. Pro-Kremlin and other Russian state-controlled outlets also tried to presented this edition as being directed against Russia.
