DISINFO: The West is trying to destroy Russian spiritual and moral values

SUMMARY

Western countries are making attempts aimed at destroying Russian spiritual and moral values, falsifying history, fomenting inter-ethnic conflicts, promoting the ideas of separatism and nationalism.

In addition, the West is introducing "alien ideals and norms" in Russia and imposing "various reforms". The introduction by the West of ideals and norms alien to Russia, the imposition of various reforms from the outside threatens social harmony, cultural sovereignty and political stability.

RESPONSE

“Threatened values” is one of the most common narratives used by pro-Kremlin outlets. The narrative is adapted to a wide range of topics and typically used to discredit liberal Western attitudes about the rights of women, ethnic and religious minorities and LGBTI groups among others.

This is a recurring pro-Kremlin narrative portraying the West as a decadent and immoral society that destroys traditional values. The accusation unfoundedly claims that the West is trying to destroy Russia, forces it to defeat geopolitically, economically and even morally, seeks to export its hostility to traditional values, materialism and perverse attitudes to non-Western nations.

The claim that the West is introducing "alien ideals and norms" is likely referring to the fact that most of the world community demand that Russia fulfils its obligations as a member of the UN, the Council of Europe, the OSCE and other international organisations, as well as Russia's own legislation.
