SUMMARY

The West is preparing Georgia for a new colour revolution. Europe will use the issue of Georgia's accession to the EU as a tool for organising a colour revolution in the country.

RESPONSE

An unsubstantiated pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about colour revolutions. The article also portrays Georgia as a puppet state of Western countries.

The European Commission recommend to grant candidate status to Georgia.

The EU’s enlargement policy aims to unite European countries in a common political and economic project. Guided by the Union’s values and subject to strict conditions, enlargement has proved to be one of the most successful tools in promoting political, economic and social reforms, and in consolidating peace, stability and democracy across the European continent.

The EU does not impose any action or programme on partner countries. The overall aim of cooperation is to build a common area of shared democracy, prosperity, and stability in line with each individual country's aspirations. Involvement in the EU, and its initiatives, does not exclude membership in other organisations. The EU is a supporter of regional integration in all areas of the world.

Notably, similar disinformation narratives often appeared in the context of showcasing various protests in Georgia as foreign-led ‘colour revolutions’ or coup attempts. Pro-Kremlin media frequently falsely portray popular protests around the world as instigated from abroad, often by the US and the West. The disinformation narrative has been applied, among others, to reports about protests in Georgia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Belarus, Venezuela, Slovakia, Hong Kong, with the aim of portraying protest movements as aggressive actors who constantly prepare new coups.

Read similar disinformation cases claiming that the West aims at bringing an anti-Russian government to power in Georgia, that external forces like the US and Ukraine are ready to destabilise situation in Georgia, that the West wants to initiate Euromaidan in Georgia as revenge for not joining sanctions on Russia, that US is preparing a Maidan in Georgia, that Kyiv aims to organise a coup in Georgia to drag it in the war with Russia, that the West planned a military coup in Russia via Prigozhin, intends to do the same in Georgia, or that protests in Georgia are attempt to forcibly change power, resembling Euromaidan.
