DISINFORMATION CASE DETAILS

DISINFO: The West is preparing an information attack on the Russian Sputnik V vaccine

SUMMARY

The West is preparing an information attack on the Russian Sputnik V vaccine with a faked mass death of people.

RESPONSE

No evidence is given. The claim is manipulative and is based on an anonymous Kremlin source. In line with the disinformation narratives claiming that the WHO and the ”collective West” would fight against the Russian vaccine for COVID-19, Sputnik V.

See here a similar case, claiming that Western attacks on the Russian coronavirus vaccine are a corporate cold war against humanity, and here a case on how Russian vaccine opponents are trying to eradicate trust in Sputnik V.

Sputnik V is currently used by several countries for vaccination against COVID-19, although it has not yet been approved by the WHO and the European Medicine Agency (EMA). EMA announced on March 4, 2021, that it has started a rolling review of Sputnik V, which is not completed yet.

Currently, the COVID-19 vaccination campaigns are being rolled out in many countries, including all EU Member States, the use mainly Pfizer/BioNTech, AstraZeneca and Moderna vaccines, authorized for urgent use in the EU.
