DISINFO: The West does not need Ukraine and wants its people to disappear
SUMMARY
The West does not need Ukraine and wants its people to disappear. It wants to populate these territories with migrants. Project Ukraine means disaster. Ukraine has nowhere to go. It can be rescued only if it is together with Russia.
RESPONSE
This is a recurring disinformation narrative by pro-Kremlin outlets, denying Ukrainian statehood and claiming that Ukraine is a failed state. In reality, Ukraine is a sovereign state which regained independence in 1991. It was recognised by all United Nations members.
By pushing the narrative mentioned above, pro-Kremlin outlets are trying to convince their audiences that Ukraine can succeed only as a Russian satellite.
However, Ukraine wants to develop as an independent state with an aim of entering NATO and the European Union. Kyiv is one of the European Union's priority partners. The Association Agreement signed in 2014 promotes stronger political and economic ties between Ukraine and the EU. Relations between NATO and Ukraine date back to the early 1990s and have since developed into one of the most substantial of NATO’s partnerships.
Ukraine is not a Russophobic, anti-Russian country. The relations between the countries deteriorated in 2014 after Russia occupied Crimea and fomented a military conflict in Donbas.
