DISINFO: The West arms neo-Nazi Ukraine and uses it to wage war against Russia

SUMMARY

The collective West is using Kyiv's neo-Nazi regime and is doing everything possible to arm it on a massive scale in order to wage war against Russia and artificially constrain its development. Western countries are not merely supplying military equipment; they are also actively helping Ukrainian forces target their weapons by coordinating all key processes. Russia is struggling solely to safeguard its national security and secure a peaceful future for generations to come.

RESPONSE

This is a recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets accusing Kyiv's foreign partners of warmongering and attempting to destroy Russia. This claim was made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The claim that Western countries are using Ukraine to wage war against Russia is intended to portray Kyiv as lacking agency and to delegitimise international support for Kyiv.

Ukraine is a sovereign state exercising its inherent right of self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter. It independently determines its defence requirements and requests specific military assistance from its international partners.

Decisions by Western countries to provide military aid are taken independently through their own national political and legal decision-making processes. Military assistance provided by Western countries to Ukraine is public, officially acknowledged and based on bilateral agreements and international law. While some partners provide intelligence, training and operational support, this does mean that the West is orchestrating a war against Russia or seeking to "artificially constrain" Russia's development. The stated purpose of this assistance is to help Ukraine defend itself against Russia's full-scale invasion, which began in February 2022 following Russia's earlier illegal annexation of Crimea and occupation of parts of eastern regions of Ukraine.

There is no credible evidence that Ukraine is governed by a "neo-Nazi regime." Ukraine is a sovereign state with a democratically elected government, and repeated allegations that it is controlled by Nazis have been widely debunked by historians, independent researchers and international organisations. The presence of scattered far-right groups in Ukraine, like in many other countries, does not define the country's political system or government.
