DISINFO: The Vilnius NATO summit was actually fake

SUMMARY

The NATO summit held in Vilnius was actually a fake.

It was only called upon to demonstrate unity to the world, unity which does not exist, and to hide disagreements.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative aiming to discredit NATO.

NATO is a collective defence alliance, which includes today 31 member states, with primary aims to maintain peace and safeguard the independence, security, and territorial integrity of its members. Despite any disagreements, decisions are adopted through consultation and consensus. As a political alliance, NATO promotes democratic values. Regarding the military agenda, the organisation is committed to the peaceful resolution of disputes. See more information about NATO's purposes here as well as a short history of NATO.

As the Heads of State and Government of NATO stated in the Vilnius Summit Communiqué:

"We have gathered in Vilnius as war continues on the European continent, to reaffirm our enduring transatlantic bond, unity, cohesion, and solidarity at a critical time for our security and international peace and stability. NATO is a defensive Alliance. We reaffirm our iron-clad commitment to defend each other and every inch of Allied territory at all times, protect our one billion citizens, and safeguard our freedom and democracy, in accordance with Article 5 of the Washington Treaty. We adhere to international law and to the purposes and principles of the Charter of the UN and are committed to upholding the rules-based international order. This Summit marks a milestone in strengthening our Alliance."

"NATO alliance more united than ever," US President Biden stated, welcoming Finland as a new Alliance member.

See similar cases that NATO is populated by raging madmen and stopped being a defensive organisation, that Russia is at war with NATO and the Pentagon and only the soldiers are Ukrainians; that NATO is an aggressive bloc created for the confrontation.
