RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative claiming that the US intends to encircle and weaken Russia, also implying that the war in Ukraine is a US proxy-war against Russia.
This claim has been frequently made in the context of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. This story aims to portray Russia as a victim and deflect any responsibility for Moscow’s illicit actions and to blur and deflect attention away from the reality of Russia's unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine.
The claim is groundless. The US and the EU are not interested in escalation the situation neither in Transnistria, the separatist region controlled by Russia where Moldova has a frozen conflict, nor anywhere else. Moldova’s pro-European government has declared many times that only a peaceful solution is acceptable in Transnistria.
NATO, with whom Moldova has a partnership and who helped to train Moldovan military to improve their capacities, is a defensive political and military alliance, aiming to maintain peace and defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of its members.
Ukraine and its population is defending itself against this armed aggression in a remarkable display of continued courage and determination. This is not a decision by NATO, the US, the EU or others.
See here a similar case, claiming the West urges Georgia to open a second front against Russia and here a case saying the West is pushing Chisinau to attack Transnistria.
