DISINFO: The US contributed to the creation of ISIS

DISINFORMATION CASE DETAILS

DISINFO: The US contributed to the creation of ISIS

SUMMARY

The United States once contributed to the creation of “ISIS” in order for it to act as a force against Bashar al-Assad in Syria, and to balance the Shiite presence in Iraq.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives that the US and other Western countries are supporting and using jihadist groups to advance geopolitical goals.

There is no evidence that the US has supported radical Islamist terrorist groups in Syria or in Iraq. The US-led military campaign in Syria has been fighting ISIS and Islamic terrorists along with the Global Coalition Against Daesh. See here for similar cases on the United States using ISIS for guerrilla and subversive activities and how the US and Europe supported Jihadists in Syria to topple the Assad regime.
