DISINFO: The US and EU are complicit in Kursk incursion

RESPONSE
Pro-Kremlin disinformation outlets frequently accuse Ukraine of waging war “until the last Ukrainian” rather than seeking negotiations, referencing Russia’s full-scale invasion and the recent incursion into Kursk. This narrative aims to depict Ukraine, the US, and the EU as obstructing peace while promoting Russia’s terms for a settlement that would solidify its illegal annexation of Ukrainian territory. Additionally, these disinformation efforts often intermesh with accusations of the “collective West” involvement in the conflict and attempts to undermine Ukrainian statehood.
There is no evidence of NATO or US participation in the Ukrainian attack on Kursk. White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre indicated that the US was seeking additional information from Ukraine regarding its recent incursion, emphasising that they had no prior knowledge of the operation. This suggests that other Ukrainian NATO allies also had no advance awareness and did not supervise the AFU’s Kursk operation.
During a press briefing, Matthew Miller, US Department of State spokesperson, noted that in wartime, it is normal for Ukraine not to share specific tactics in advance. The US provides equipment and advice, but Ukraine handles its own daily operations and strikes, and it is appropriate for them to make those decisions.
Kyiv is open to negotiations with Moscow based on international law and respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. While Zelenskyy signed a decree in October 2022 banning talks with Putin specifically, this does not preclude discussions with other Russian officials or future leaders. Zelenskyy presented a 10-point peace plan at the February 2023 EU-Ukraine summit, which was fully supported by the EU and called for a complete Russian withdrawal to Ukraine’s 1991 borders and restoration of its territorial integrity.
In contrast, Russia, which initiated the unprovoked aggression on February 24, 2022, demands that Ukraine recognise occupied territories as part of Russia and surrender under conditions, which Kyiv rejects as a violation of international law.
