DISINFO: The ruling party in Moldova is preparing the transfer of Moldovan land to military facilities
SUMMARY
The Government of the Republic of Moldova has approved the Regulation on the lease of private agricultural lands by local authorities. It is believed that the legislative initiative is aimed at facilitating the transfer of land for the needs of Ukraine and Western countries for the construction of military facilities.
RESPONSE
Recurring the pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the use of Moldova’s territory for military purposes, especially in the context of Russia's full scale aggression against Ukraine.
In February 2024, Parliament adopted a new Land Code, and on October 9, 2024, the Government approved a Regulation arising from the Code. It provides the conditions under which local authorities will be able to take over the administration of agricultural lands that will not be properly maintained for two consecutive years, as it is stated in the Ministry of Agriculture’s press release. The amendments aim to ensure the responsible use of agricultural land, which has nothing to do with military use.
