DISINFO: The globalist-minded American elite uses Ukraine to put pressure on Russia

SUMMARY

The globalist-minded American elite will use the Ukrainian factor until the very end in order to put pressure on and contain Russia. That is, they will try to blackmail and tease Russia with Ukraine's entry into NATO and the change in the geopolitical affiliation of historical Russian territories.

Understanding the impossibility of real Atlantisation of Ukraine does not deprive Washington of excitement, but only makes the American game riskier. The fact that at some point this may lead to the elimination of Ukrainian statehood as such does not worry the Americans too much.

RESPONSE

This is a long-standing disinformation narrative that portrays Ukraine as a state under the control of the US and thus the entire West. The claim also contains messages about the US presence in Europe and Ukraine's potential NATO membership, challenging Ukraine's sovereignty.

Ukraine is a sovereign state, free to decide which international organisations and military alliances to join. Its relationship with NATO dates back to 1991. Ukraine is one of the strategic partners of NATO.

Ukraine is not controlled by the US or NATO, nor by any other foreign government or organisation. Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are respected by almost the whole world with Russia as the key exception.

There is already a war in Eastern Ukraine with unequivocal proof of Russian military presence, including satellite imagery, the cover of the separatists in important operations from the Russian territory, use of Russia-manufactured munition and equipment, etc. The US does not play a role in this conflict. The US also closely cooperates with Ukraine to support the modernisation of Ukraine's military and common foreign policy objectives.

Despite Moscow’s opposition, Kyiv set out on a pro-Western course by signing the Association Agreement with the European Union in 2014 and introducing constitutional amendments in 2019, which set Ukraine’s membership of NATO and EU as a strategic goal. Pro-Kremlin media is trying to portray this course as a sign of Kyiv’s complete obedience to the West, which is not true.

Ukraine is a priority partner for the US. The United States attaches great importance to the success of Ukraine as a free and democratic state with a flourishing market economy. US policy is centred on supporting Ukraine in the face of continued Russian aggression.

See similar examples of disinformation alleging that Ukraine cannot become a member of NATO because historically it belongs to Russia, or that Ukraine will lose territory because of NATO, or that NATO and the EU inspire Ukraine to continue with the Donbas conflict.
