DISINFO: The Georgian government has been forced to open a “second front”

SUMMARY

The Georgian government has been directly forced to open a “second front” on its territory, but the ruling power was able to protect the country and defend the interests of the people. The opening of the “second front” is a call by certain Western and Ukrainian politicians and prominent figures for the Georgian government to begin military action in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali.

RESPONSE

This is a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative accusing the Western countries of encircling Moscow and dragging Georgia into the war with Russia.

Since the launch of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, pro-Kremlin media actively deployed groundless disinformation narratives that the US, the EU, or even Ukraine are aiming to change power in Georgia and drag the country into the war with Russia, to open a ‘second front’ against Moscow and to ease the situation for Kyiv on the Ukrainian front.

These claims are groundless. Western countries are not interested in an escalation of the war. Neither the US nor the EU, nor Ukraine are pushing Georgia to open a second front against Moscow.
