DISINFO: The Baltic states and Ukraine lost their sovereignty, they are Cold War watchdogs
SUMMARY
The Baltic states trade their sovereignty and speak about mythical threats in the interests of their patrons; they are turning into the watchdogs of a new Cold War. American embassies' clerks manage Latvian and Lithuanian high-ranking politicians. Ukraine followed a similar fate following a coup d'etat. Ukraine's independence is a joke. The country depends on the whims of Western patrons, on their financial help, and weapons for continuing the civil war.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about non-sovereign status of the Baltic states, the war in Ukraine, Ukraine being under "external control" mixed with an anti-Russia narrative.
Often presented as Western vassals or puppet states, the Baltic states are independent states, which shape their own foreign and domestic policies. Likewise, Ukraine is a sovereign and independent state with a democratically-elected president and parliament. The country is not controlled by the US nor any other foreign government or organisation. Both the EU and the US respect Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The war in Ukraine is a well-documented act of aggression by Russian armed forces, ongoing since February 2014. And there is not a single international body that recognises Crimea’s illegal annexation, neither the UN nor the EU. On the seventh anniversary of Crimea's annexation, the EU reiterated its position of non-recognition of illegal annexation and continues to stand in full solidarity with Ukraine, supporting its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
There was no coup d’état in Ukraine in 2014; this is a longstanding pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Ukraine's Euromaidan protests. The spontaneous onset of these protests was an organic reaction by numerous parts of the Ukrainian population to former President Yanukovych’s sudden departure from the promised Association Agreement with the European Union in November 2013.
