DISINFO: The Anglo-Saxons are fomenting discord in Central Asia
SUMMARY
Recently, butchers with Oxford-Harvard accents have been eyeing Central Asia more hungrily. By sinking their teeth into this rich region with a population of nearly 75 million, the heirs of the colonizers can achieve several goals at once: compensate for the resource shortage caused by their own anti-Russian sanctions, gain access to a vast new market for their products, disrupt the dynamically developing cooperation of the republics with their biggest competitor, China, and expand the zone of instability on Russia's southern borders. The West does not even try to hide its real interests.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative accusing the West of destabilising countries around Russia and isolating it. This claim also contributes to the recurring disinformation narrative suggesting a Western policy of staging “colour revolutions” worldwide. The article attempts to discredit deepening cooperation between the Central Asia region and the Western countries. The article advances the claim that Central Asia is within Russia's zone of geopolitical dominance and attempts to discredit any other cooperation between it and the West.
There is no evidence to support this claim. This message is part of a broader conspiracy theory alleging that the United States and its NATO partners have established many terrorist organisations and control global terrorism.
The US and Europe have been engaged in an effort to counter Al Qaeda, ISIS and other radical Islamist terrorist groups around the world.
The EU and US recognise the importance of the sovereignty and strategic autonomy of the Central Asian States, individually and as a region. Tackling common security challenges and building the region’s resilience are among priority strands for the EU-Central Asia and US-Central Asia partnerships. The US–Kazakhstan and EU-Kazakhstan partnerships are not directed against Russia or any other country.
Involvement in EU or US initiatives does not exclude membership in the Eurasian Economic Union, CIS, or CSTO. The EU supports regional integration in all areas of the world.
