DISINFO: Anthony Fauci admits that the vaccine situation has turned into competition

SUMMARY

The head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Anthony Fauci positively evaluated Russian vaccine Sputnik V, after publication about its efficiency in “Lancet”.

The specialist admits that the vaccine situation has turned into a competition, in which everyone wants to win, including Russia or China.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about vaccines. aiming to promote the Russian Sputnik V vaccine.

Anthony Fauci's words were misrepresented by the pro-Kremlin media. The full extract from the interview, where Fauci speaks about "vaccine race" and Sputnik V can be accessed here or seen below:

“I would say there is absolutely not going to be one winner. This is not a race where whoever wins the race wins. We want everybody to get over the finish line and get a trophy. So if the Russians have a vaccine that is over 90 per cent efficacious, wonderful! Then they could take care of not only Russia, but maybe even some other needing countries. The same thing with the Chinese vaccine. The same thing with the vaccines that are coming out of the UK, the AZ and the Oxford vaccines. Successes on their part to me is just another step toward getting to where we want to be, namely having global protection, not just individual developed nations”.

In other words, Anthony Fauci positively evaluated all attempts to create vaccine (and did not distinguish Sputnik V). He also proposed not to view vaccines as a competition between different producers or as a race where could or should be one winner.

The same disinformation campaign includes statements such as “Sputnik V vaccine will stop pandemic” and “Bloomberg provides reasons to trust Russian vaccine Sputnik V” and at the same time asserts that “The West continues its war against Sputnik V and Russian vaccines”.
