DISINFO: Russian special military operation in Ukraine helps liberate world from Western neo-colonialism
SUMMARY
Russia's special military operation in Ukraine contributes to the process of liberating the world from the West’s neo-colonial oppression, which is densely mixed with racism and an exceptionality complex.
RESPONSE
This is a disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets trying to justify the Russian war on Ukraine which started on 24 February 2022.
In reality, this war (rather than a special operation, as the Kremlin is claiming) has nothing to do with fictitious Western neo-colonialism. The invasion is aimed at destroying Ukraine as a state and annihilating the Ukrainians as a nation. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s words about denazification, demilitarisation etc are only a smokescreen to divert attention from Moscow's real plans against Ukraine. These plans were overtly laid out in a recent article titled “What Russia should do with Ukraine” by a pro-Kremlin political expert. Along with repeatedly accusing most Ukrainians of being Nazis, the article calls for the de-Ukrainisation of Ukraine, that is eradication of Ukrainian culture and everything related to it. The article also reveals the Kremlin’s plan to divide Ukraine into several entities subordinate to Russia, but without the word “Ukraine” in their names.
Despite Russia’s groundless accusation of Ukraine as a Nazi state, these intentions are Nazi in themselves. Russia’s drive to destroy Ukraine, coupled with its purported plans to attack Poland, Lithuania and Moldova, is a clear-cut attempt at restoring a new version of Soviet-style expansionism with a Nazi hue.
