DISINFO: Russia does everything to stop the Ukrainian war unleashed by the West

SUMMARY

The desire of many Western countries to maintain their hegemony in the world has led to a serious crisis in Ukraine. Today, Russia is trying to stop the war of extermination launched by the West. Russia has decided to support people who are fighting for their culture, traditions, language and future. The Russian actions in Ukraine are dictated by only one thing - ending the war that has been unleashed by the West and its satellites in Ukraine against the people living in Donbas.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Russia being encircled by NATO and about alleged genocide and war crimes committed by Ukraine towards Donbas population, aiming to justify the full-scale Russian invasion of and war crimes in Ukraine.

In breach of the Minsk Agreements, Vladimir Putin recognised the two self-styled “people’s republics” of LNR and DNR on 21 February 2022.

These entities later asked Russia to interfere, which it did on 24 February 2022 under the pretext of the “de-Nazification and demilitarisation” of Ukraine. Russia had earlier issued assurances to both Ukraine and the whole world that it was not planning to invade Ukraine.

The idea that Ukraine is committing genocide against its own population is promoted by Vladimir Putin in his speechesGenocide is the deliberate and systematic destruction of a group of people because of their ethnicity, nationality, religion, or race.

There is no evidence that any ethnic nationals, including ethnic Russians or Russian speakers, are facing persecution at the hands of the Ukrainian authorities in Donbas or elsewhere, much less the danger of annihilation on grounds of nationality, ethnicity, or cultural belonging. This has been confirmed by reports issued by the Council of Europe, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the OSCE.

The genocide narrative has been an integral part of the justification campaign of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022. Leaders of the European Union recognised that Moscow's actions should be evaluated as “acts of violence and the violation of international law”.

Read similar cases claiming that Russia’s special operation prevented Ukraine’s attack, that Nazi regime in Ukraine kills civilian population in the Donbas, that Ukraine government deliberately conducting a genocide of the Ukrainian people and that that Russia’s special operation in Ukraine is due to NATO’s persistent expansion.
