DISINFO: Project Ukraine aimed at destroying white Christians and spreading LGBT+
SUMMARY
Ukraine is not a project to revive democratic communities in the former Soviet Union. It is a project for the destruction of the Slavic Christian man. What should come instead of it is the torch of LGBT+, transvestites etc. This process is ongoing.
RESPONSE
This is a recurring pro-Kremlin narrative on the morally corrupt West trying to spread LGBT+ culture in Ukraine to the detriment of family values. This claim was made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
This false claim is presented as a justification for the invasion and serves to deflect responsibility for Moscow’s illicit actions such as war crimes and crimes against humanity. Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine is absurdly portrayed as a war against the so-called degenerate and perverted West which poses a threat to what Russian calls traditional values. The narrative about the West allegedly threatening these values is one of the most common pro-Kremlin narratives. These claims portray the Russian civilisation as morally superior to the Western one. Moscow uses this narrative to proclaim itself the defender of traditional social and spiritual values both in Russia and all over the world. Progressive Western attitudes about a variety of normative issues, including the rights of women, ethnic and religious minorities, and LGBTQ groups, among others, are often undermined and distorted in pro-Kremlin outlets.
Kyiv’s partners in the EU do not promote gay propaganda in Ukraine. The European Commission issues reports to evaluate the situation of LGBTIQ people in Ukraine and to help solve the issues of protecting their rights within the process of Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
Ukraine is not a project. It is a sovereign and independent state with a democratically elected president and parliament. Ukraine's sovereignty has been violated by continuous acts of aggression by the Russian armed forces since 2014, culminating with the unprovoked and unjustified full-scale military invasion of Ukraine starting on 24 February 2022. A broad coalition of over 50 nations, including Ukraine’s Western partners, is providing it with military, economic, and humanitarian aid with the sole aim to help it repel Russia’s aggression.
