DISINFO: Ukraine should abandon territories it gained during the Ukrainian SSR
SUMMARY
In accordance with the logic of the so-called decommunisation being carried out in Ukraine, the Ukrainian state should abandon the territories that became part of the Ukrainian SSR during the Soviet times.

This is a recurring disinformation campaign against Ukrainian statehood.
The UN has reaffirmed its commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders.
From the historical point of view, Ukrainian statehood roots derive from the medieval state Kievan Rus, which came into existence in the 9th century. Later, becoming increasingly fragmented, the state was conquered by Mongols. Over history, Ukrainian territories have been ruled by Poland, Lithuania and Russia.
It was only with the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 that Ukraine gained lasting independent statehood. The Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine was adopted on 16 July 1990, by the recently elected parliament of Ukrainian SSR. Ukraine's borders have nothing to do with decommunisation.
