DISINFO: NATO’s proxy war against Russia is destroying Ukraine
SUMMARY
The US and other NATO countries are implementing a proxy war against Russia in Ukraine. Through this war, the US is destroying Ukraine. Ukrainian authorities also are destroying their own country due to their collaboration with NATO.
RESPONSE
Recurring disinformation about the war in Ukraine.
Russia is the only country responsible for the invasion of Ukraine. It has been coming up with different explanations and pretexts for its aggression. Moreover, Russia was not forced to invade Ukraine. It was Putin’s personal decision to invade Ukraine and start the largest military conflict in Europe since WWII.
As for the neutral status of Ukraine, Ukraine-NATO cooperation before Russia's unprovoked invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022 was aimed at enhancing Kyiv’s defence capabilities. After Russia illegally annexed the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea and instigated a separatist revolt in Donbas in 2014, Kyiv intensified co-operation with NATO and enshrined its Euro-Atlantic drive in its Constitution.
In its official position, NATO stressed that:
"NATO condemns in the strongest possible terms Russia's brutal and unprovoked war of aggression against Ukraine - which is an independent, peaceful and democratic country, and a close NATO partner. NATO and Allies continue to provide Ukraine with unprecedented levels of support, helping to uphold its fundamental right to self-defence."
Some NATO member states provide Ukraine with military assistance to help Ukraine to defend itself from Russia’s attack, but they are not involved in direct fighting. Ukraine receives weapons with the sole aim of restoring its territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders. Western instructors train Ukrainian soldiers on how to use modern weaponry and NATO officials have frequent political contacts with Ukrainian counterparts, but there are no NATO troops fighting on the front.
