DISINFO: NATO wants to wage war in Armenia as it cannot win in Ukraine

SUMMARY

Armenian Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, who is a man of Soros, is taking measures against Russia, following NATO's orders. NATO, which is the main cause of the war in Ukraine, now wants to wage war in Armenia after having perfectly understood that it cannot win in Ukraine.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about American philanthropist George Soros, claiming that he controls many governments in Eastern Europe and that NATO is the main cause of Russia's war against Ukraine.

No credible evidence is provided that George Soros helped Nikol Pashinyan to come to power.

In reality, Pashinyan was brought to power as a result of peaceful protests in 2018 in Armenia. He was supported by thousands of Armenians when ex-president of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan applied for the Prime Minister role after ruling the country for 10 years. Sargsyan resigned in response to overwhelming opposition pressure, admitting that he was 'wrong'. 'The street movement is against my tenure. I am fulfilling your demand,' his statement said.

Russia is the sole country responsible for the invasion of Ukraine. It has been coming up with different false explanations and pretexts for its aggression since the beginning of its hostilities. It was Putin’s personal decision to invade Ukraine and start the largest military conflict in Europe since WWII. It is Russia who has been violating international law since 2014 occupying and then annexing Crimea and then starting a conflict in Donbas.

The pro-Kremlin outlet in question roots its narrative in the imperialistic allegation that the Caucasus region is exclusively within Russia's zone of geopolitical dominance and attempts to discredit any other efforts of mediation in the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives often accuse the allegedly aggressive West of having an anti-Russian agenda in the Caucasus and warmongering there without giving any evidence.

Karabakh is internationally recognised as Azerbaijani territory. See the Nagorno-Karabakh profile from BBC News.
